VMware Workstation with Teams functionality is a really flexible and usefull
Little trick for VMware Workstation 7 Teams.
I’m still discovering VMware Workstation 7. After so many years using this software, there are still functionalities I’m discovering. With this VMware product the productivity of preparing labs or testing patching, service pack or updates of software has never been easier.
Last time I “discovered” Teams and how it can simplify your life when you need 5-6 Virtual machines together, like Domain controller, Several member servers, 2 Virtual ESX Servers (yes you can install easily now inside of VMware Workstation without tweaking your VMX configuration file ) together with an XP client – all in one Team.
Today again I discovered one more. I always powered my Team by Power On button. But you don’t have to. If you want to power on just one individual VM which is part of your Team, you can do it, if you want to. Or you can power few Individual VMs from that Team too.
This avoids you the waiting time since when you Power the whole team, the VMs are powering automatically one after another with 10 seconds delay after each. (you can change that if needed).
Using Teams with quite a few VMs in it needs a powerfull desktop computer of server. That’s why I changed (partly) my home desktop system recently. Whad did I got finaly?
I picked up an Asus P6T SE with 12Gigs of RAM and Intel i7 920. There are 2 SATA drives in my system for now, I’ll be getting an SSD from Kingnston together with a graphic card to complete the system. All I wanted not to have a datacenter running 24/24 and consuming energy, but powerfull multipurpose desktop system capable doing advanced configurations under VMware Workstation, for learning, and for some Video editing together with my Camileo S10.
Using VMware Workstation 7 on the Virtualization tasks is a must. There is no other product on the market today which can do better.
